Let people in tliia 'avertible climo be thankful, at leat, that though many aie needy, and out of employment, they arc not cxpoaod to a climate where audi hardship are ao much harder to bear. We aee notioca in New York paper, alating that within sight of tho ateeplca of the city, there are two hundred thou aaud persona, who have no work, no real home, and no means of inmiring them a livelihood. Tliono people flock to the large citici, because they like tho con sequent excitmgnt, and will not leave, and go where quiet picvails, and hon orable labor will insure them a comfort able living. So it is with many in this vicinity. They will persist in hanging about the villages rather than to go out is the country whore land is plenty, ami ratoms an ample harvest. You who are doing nothing, and have not the mean to live in this way, should think of the mat ter, and not claim sympathy and support, when there ana plenty who are either too old or too young to work, who are ac tually in nctd, and rightfully claim assis tance. At last the contract for finishing the Hoosao Tunnel has been signed between the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and Walter and Francis Stanley. ' This is the contract as 'accepted by the State. The contractors agree to complete the Uitinc-I arid lay down 4 8-4 miles of substantial railway track through it, rated at $14,. 000 per mile, for $4,592,000. They agree to begin operations at once, with energy, and by the 1st day of May next to deepen the central shaft 14 inches per Jay, and to advance from tho east and west faces 250 feet per month. They engage to carry down the central shait to tit e base of the tunnel by May 1, 1870, and thereafter to advance from four faces the full-sized tunnel at the rate of 4,000 feet per year. At this rate of' progress they would cojuplete the enterprise in less than four year K but, aa a safeguard against all casualties, they are allowed a year more for the completion. They cx ;puo(, however, lo finish' the undertaking two years within tho timb prescribed by statute. The contractors give , security i:t $300,000 for tho completion of the lyoik 011 the terms prescribed, by stipu ating that they will call for no money ' im:i! the Mate Engineer certifies that the A N Irtlrt, N ..... . .
